Members of the immigration team welcomed OISC advisers into chambers on 2nd November 2017 and together, they conducted a workshop on immigration judicial reviews. The OISC rules and guidance were amended earlier this year to allow advisers registered at level 3 to conduct judicial reviews as long as they work with barristers registered to provide public access services with the authorisation to conduct litigation. This presents an exciting opportunity for both chambers and OISC advisers to work even more closely together.
Joe Plowright chaired the seminar and provided some training on the new OISC guidance and the “ins and outs” of judicial reviews. Dr Anton van Dellen spoke about assessing the merits of pursuing a JR claim and the issue of alternative remedies as well as compliance with the pre-action protocol. Sarah Pinder covered the topics of outcomes in the Upper Tribunal, remedies and consent orders and Samina Iqbal closed the evening with a detailed talk on costs.
