Christabel regularly defends those in the criminal courts, conducting both public and private criminal work. She is particularly adept at representing youths and those suffering with mental health problems, addictions or anxiety issues; her growing practice in civil mental health tribunal appeals reflects her commitment to safeguarding vulnerable people who find themselves in state custody, and complements her criminal practice.

Christabel is passionate about ensuring state accountability, access to justice and respect for human rights, as reflected by her posts as Editor of BPP Human Rights Journal, Director of BPP Law School Human rights Unit and her international work with an NGO in Jerusalem alongside a Nobel Peace Prize nominee and assisting lawyers and campaigners in challenging the death penalty in New Orleans. She is also interested in prison law and rehabilitative penal reform, alongside protest law and safeguarding the rights of freedom of expression and association.

Christabel regularly conducts pro bono work, primarily in the fields of social security, disability law and judicial review, as well as having volunteered for the charity INQUEST during her pupillage. She is also currently a journalist with The Justice Gap, writing topical articles on civil liberties and public interest issues.

Christabel balances sensitivity and compassion with a fearless desire to get the best result for her client. She is intellectually rigorous and astute, yet down to earth and personable.
