Toby became a member of Goldsmith Chambers upon successful completion of pupillage in November 2020.

He accepts instructions for both the defence and prosecution in criminal cases, and also in extradition, regulatory proceedings and actions against the police. He is on the CPS Advocate Panel at Level 3.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Toby was a paralegal at a leading criminal solicitors’ firm in London. Through this role he gained a deep understanding of criminal litigation. He was fully police station accredited and gained extensive experience in advising clients at the police station and representing them in their police station interviews.

Toby studied History at the University of Liverpool where he was awarded a first. Following this he studied the Graduate Diploma in Law and achieved a distinction. He then studied the Bar as a Diplock Scholar at BPP University, where he gained an LLM with distinction. The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple awarded Toby with the Colombos Public International Law Essay Prize in 2017.

Crime Barrister

Toby is regularly instructed to appear on behalf of the defence, prosecution and probation in the Crown, magistrates’ and Youth Courts. He is a Level 3 on the CPS Advocate Panel and also has experience in private prosecutions.

Toby has gained substantial experience in written advisory work and research and accepts instructions to advise appeals against conviction and sentence.

Extradition Barrister

Toby is keen to develop a practice in the area of extradition and accepts instructions to advise and represent parties in these proceedings. Toby has an avid interest in international matters having focussed in this area during his elective subjects during the GDL and his LLM.

Civil Barrister

Toby accepts instructions in actions against the police having gained substantial experience in this area during his pupillage and being well versed in dealing with police witnesses in the criminal courts. He accepts instructions to advise and represent injured parties in their proceedings.

Toby is on the Junior Junior Scheme for the Government Legal Department.
