Christabel practices primarily in criminal and family law, with an interest in human rights, mental health and prison reform.

She is adept at offering dedicated representation and advice which is tailored to each client.

Christabel is Direct Access qualified and has represented a range of clients, from families at Article 2 inquests, to retired Ghurkhas, to those facing criminal or family proceedings for the first time and are feeling deeply anxious, frustrated or uncertain. Christabel is both intuitive and pragmatic in court, offering a multi-disciplinary approach to her cases that draws from her diverse practice.

Before the Bar, Christabel worked on projects internationally for the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions in Israel/Palestine and against the death penalty in in New Orleans for the Capital Appeals Project. She was also recently a delegate on the Colombian Caravana, focusing on indigenous rights and the role of truth and reconciliation in the peace process, for which she jointly authored a report presented to the UN.

Christabel’s other interests include activism, writing, martial arts and Jesus. She regularly seeks out needlessly difficult endurance challenges, including ultramarathons, regular marathons, triathlons and horse-riding explorations abroad.

Crime Barrister

Christabel has a busy criminal practice, in which she both prosecutes and defends across the breadth of criminal areas, including drugs, offences against the person, sexual offences, fraud and other dishonesty offences, and police cases. She has a growing expertise in defending requested persons in extradition proceedings in both category 1 and category 2 territories. She can advise on all aspects of criminal proceedings. She also represents prisoners at parole hearings.

Notable Defence cases

R v TP – All Crown evidence excluded in burglary trial due to successful disclosure arguments

R v ST – Rehabilitative community penalty for serious possession of indecent images

R v HW – No evidence offered against client accused of stabbing her partner, false imprisonment and threats to kill following negotiations with CPS

R v MB – Deferred sentence for youth with a machete, despite second strike offence

R v YP – Low level community penalty for possession with intent to supply class A drugs

R v CB – Defended in novel contested extradition of a Bulgarian national to Bermuda, involving Articles 3, 5, 6 and ECHR points

Family Barrister

Christabel has a busy practice in all family areas, including private law children, public law children and matrimonial finance. She is adept in cases involving allegations of domestic abuse.

Christabel has a particular specialisation in relocation cases, both inside and outside of the jurisdiction, successfully acting for both Applicant and Respondent.

She is reassuring and personable with clients, successfully negotiating with opposing counsel and litigants in person, as well as championing each client’s case in court to achieve their goal and the solution that is in the best interests of their children.

Animal Rights Barrister

Christabel has experience in judicial review and disclosure exercises, having worked on disclosure reviews for the Grenfell Inquiry. She welcomes instructions in all areas of animal law.
