David practises exclusively in crime and has a busy practice both defending and prosecuting. He has experience across a broad range of criminal matters, from violent offences (including in a domestic context) and robbery, to allegations of rape and drugs offences.

Prior to coming to the Bar, David worked in the litigation department at a leading global law firm working across their public law and financial services departments. He has previously been involved with a number of organisations working in the criminal justice sector both here and in France.

Notable Cases:

Defending

Operation Lytton: Junior Counsel (led by Meyrick Williams) for second defendant in Rochdale grooming case. This was the first trial in a new series arising from the police investigations into historic child sexual abuse in Rochdale, following on from Operation Doublet and others.

R v AP: [ongoing] Representing client charged on 16 count indictment with multiple allegations of harassment and malicious communications, including a number of high profile individuals, politicians and senior legal professionals.

R v SR: Represented client in allegation of home invasion robbery and false imprisonment.

R v AH: Represented first defendant in multi-handed dangerous driving case, client and co-defendants were all serving police officers.

R v AC: Represented vulnerable autistic client in case of sexual communication with a child.

R v SS: Represented vulnerable client who had been a victim of domestic abuse, accused of stabbing her partner (s.18 GBH).

R v DS: Represented client in allegation of historic rape of 7 year old child.

R v AB: Represented a serving soldier as first defendant in a multi-handed affray.

R v DS: Represented vulnerable autistic client in case of supply of class A drugs.

R v AA: Represented client in trial of multiple assaults and possession of offensive weapon.

Prosecuting

R v TS: [ongoing] Prosecuting multiple trials for allegations of stalking and harassment as well as a threat to kill a member of the judiciary.

R v NH: Prosecuted the first case of cyberflashing in the UK.

R v CL: Prosecuted unusual case of possession of regulated substances (mercury, sulphuric acid and nitric acid), involving legal argument over statutory interpretation of defence.

R v PB: Prosecuted multi-handed s.18 GBH trial involving expert evidence.

R v SL: Prosecuted case of coercive and controlling behaviour, multiple counts of GBH and false imprisonment.

R v SP: Prosecuted care worker accused of assaulting a severely autistic boy.

R v AF: Prosecuting in trial involving a defence of insanity to charges involving weapons offences.
