Edward has a busy practice specialising in immigration and asylum, human rights, public law, and crime.
Edward regularly appears in the First-tier and Upper Tribunal in a range of matters including asylum, deportation, Article 1F exclusion, deprivation of citizenship, and human rights claims under Articles 3 and 8 ECHR. He has also appeared in the High Court in judicial review proceedings involving immigration detention and the revocation of sponsor licences.
Alongside his immigration and public law practice, Edward is regularly instructed in criminal matters and appears in both the Magistrates’ Court and the Crown Court. His criminal practice complements his immigration work, particularly in cases involving deportation following conviction, serious criminality, and allegations engaging Article 3 or Article 8 ECHR.
Prior to joining Goldsmith Chambers, Edward gained valuable and diverse experience during pupillage and through two years representing the Secretary of State for the Home Department in the First-tier and Upper Tribunal. This provided him with invaluable insight into immigration proceedings from the government’s perspective and a thorough understanding of Home Office policy and decision-making processes. This experience forms an exceptional foundation for his practice, enabling him to anticipate potential arguments and effectively address evidential challenges, having seen them from both sides.
Edward also gained significant experience in criminal justice and appellate work while working at the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), including appeals from the Crown Court to the Court of Appeal. He was involved in the review of the Post Office Horizon cases that led to the overturning of more than 60 convictions. He specialised in reviewing cases involving potential miscarriages of justice and undertook research into trends affecting such cases, including homicide cases involving female defendants, historic sexual abuse cases, and joint enterprise murder.
Edward participated in the pro bono initiative ‘Kids In Need Of Defence’, assisting undocumented children to obtain lawful status in the UK.
