Elisabeth is a passionate advocate who strives to give voice and agency to her clients. Calm, tactical, and tenacious, she has a commanding grasp of relevant law and applies it concisely and strategically to a client’s lived experience. She is attuned to the particular vulnerabilities of those who allege domestic abuse and trauma and whether she represents them or cross-examines them, is mindful always of the stresses and strains of litigation.

Conscientious and empathetic, Elisabeth demonstrates at all stages of family proceedings a respect for the human rights of parents and children. Known for her supportive and compassionate approach, Elisabeth works in partnership with professional and lay clients to develop strategies informed by pragmatism, be that for a single hearing or an entire case.

Whether she is instructed in private or public law proceedings, Elisabeth takes a forensic approach to evidence. She is particularly skilled at finding-of-fact hearings and has had several favourable outcomes where significant findings of serious abuse were made, including findings of coercive and controlling behaviour, sexual abuse, and financial abuse. Elisabeth has advocated successfully for and against relocation applications and has experience litigating applications for occupation orders, transfers of tenancies, section 91(14) orders, and cases arising under High Court inherent jurisdiction. She is regularly instructed in financial remedies proceedings and represents parents in care proceedings.

In her appellate practice, Elisabeth is adept at formulating and drafting grounds of appeal and skeleton arguments that reflect a firm grasp of the development and trajectory of the law on domestic abuse in particular.

Elisabeth qualified in California in 2001 and was called to the Bar in 2011, moving to self-employed practice in 2019.

After law school, Elisabeth served as a law clerk (judicial assistant) to the Hon. Samuel Conti, a federal judge who sat in the Northern District of California. She spent several years as a senior associate a major US law firm in San Francisco litigating intellectual property disputes, with a particular interest in claims under California’s legislation barring Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs).  She then moved to an in-house role as a lawyer for an international publishing company based in the UK where she advised on copyright licensing, libel, and disputes.

Content regulation is a key facet of Elisabeth’s civil practice. A former community journalist, Elisabeth is interested in the right to publish opinion and on matters in the public interest. She maintains an interest in copyright law and in particular, the doctrine of fair dealing/fair use.

In her criminal practice, Elisabeth appears in Crown, Magistrates and Youth Courts, having prosecuted and defended a variety of offences. She is CPS Level 1 prosecutor.

Elisabeth is Direct Access qualified. She regularly accepts cases from Advocate, the Bar Pro Bono Unit, demonstrating her commitment to access to justice.
