Civil

Before coming to the Bar, Farhana worked as a Paralegal at the Government Legal Department, where she gained experience in public and civil law matters. Her work included leading the drafting of a statutory instrument enabling local authorities to impose civil penalties for parking contraventions, together with the associated explanatory memorandum. She also undertook advisory and contentious work, including drafting pre-action correspondence in debt recovery proceedings and legal research on the UK’s Article 2 ECHR obligations as a State to prevent migrant deaths at sea.

Farhana is also acquainted with housing law, having volunteered at Clerkenwell and Shoreditch County Court during university, where she assisted litigants in person in possession disputes and disrepair claims.

Immigration

Having worked as a Home Office Presenting Office, Farhana has gained substantial advocacy and case analysis experience across a broad range of immigration matters, including asylum, human rights, deportation, and EU Settlement Scheme appeals. During her first six months of pupillage, under the supervision of Anthony Metzer KC, she has built on that foundation by drafting pre-action protocol correspondence, judicial review grounds and immigration bail applications. She brings a strong practical and strategic

understanding of immigration litigation and intends to develop a busy practice in this area.

Family

Farhana has developed experience in family law through observing and assisting on a range of private and public law matters during first six pupillage and through shadowing experienced family practitioners. She has gained exposure to proceedings involving child arrangements, non-molestation and occupation orders, enforcement applications, and public law care matters. She is keen to develop this experience in her second six.
