Jamila practises in public law with particular expertise in immigration and human rights. Jamila also specialises in family law, representing children in particular.
Jamila has been appointed as Junior Counsel to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry. She works with the Inquiry Team to analyse evidence and prepare the examination of witnesses.
Fluent in Swedish, Somali and Swahili, in addition to English, Jamila is interested in cases with cross-cultural and international dimensions.
Prior to coming to the Bar, she worked with community groups and voluntary organisations in Sweden, Kenya and the UK. In Sweden, she founded an award winning association that aimed to empower and advocate on behalf of marginalised groups. As an intern at the Minority Rights Group in London, Jamila assisted in the drafting of submissions to the Human Rights Commission of the UN on behalf of minority and indigenous peoples of Kenya.
Jamila has also worked for commercial firms and as an independent advocate undertaking Civil work.
Jamila is committed to social justice and the defence of marginalised individuals, including those with mental illness. She volunteers to provide advice and/or representation on a pro bono basis, to those who need it.
Jamila is qualified to undertake direct access work for members of the public.
