Samantha practises in Criminal, Extradition and Family law. Samantha has also developed expertise in human rights.

Samantha has a strong criminal defence practice across a number of areas of serious and complex crime. On completion of pupillage Samantha became a Grade 2 Crown prosecutor, developing a predominantly prosecution practice in General Crime and Extradition. After completing a secondment in the Extradition Unit of the Crown Prosecution Service, Samantha worked as an Employed Barrister with an emphasis on White Collar Defence and civil fraud. Since returning to the Self-employed Bar, Samantha continues to specialise in White Collar defence representing individuals in Fraud, Asset Recovery and Money Laundering matters.

Samantha spent over two years advising a French multinational on its anti-bribery and anti-corruption polices including the review of contractual arrangements and payment processes within the business units to ensure that they were compliant with the Bribery Act 2010.

Samantha has advised companies based in and/or working in Africa upon various aspects of English law. She regularly advises companies in relation to commercial disputes as well as their anti-corruption and human rights obligations.

Samantha also continues to work with NGO’s upon anti-corruption and Human Rights initiatives across Africa and the United Kingdom. She speaks French and Spanish fluently and often travels and works abroad, as required by the relevant project.

Criminal Casework

Samantha has also developed a strong practice in General Crime, defending in Drugs, Firearms, GBH, Rape and Modern Slavery cases.

Recent cases:

Firearms: Samantha recently represented a client who was unanimously acquitted of Firearms charges in a prosecution based upon extensive cell-site and telephone evidence.

GBH – Samantha represented the lead defendant in a multi-handed case presented and opened on the basis of being Category 1A harm. Following the evidence and cross-examination of the Crown’s experts, the Crown conceded the injuries fell within Category 3A. This was accepted by the judge on submissions.

Represented defendant charged with multiple GBH offences in an unprovoked attack. Client displaying significant mental health difficulties. The case concluded with the Crown accepting pleas to Section 20. Samantha successfully mitigated to secure a suspended sentence.

FRAUD /ASSET RECOVERY– Represented the lead defendant in a multi-handed insurance fraud. Case requiring a number of preparatory hearings. Matter concluded after a three-year period of preparatory hearings with the Crown offering no evidence on account of disclosure deficiencies.

Instructed in largescale crypto-currency asset freezing application. Freezing order successfully obtained. Case forming part of largest crypto-currency asset seizure in England and Wales.

Sexual Offences: Representing clients charged with serious sexual offences, including historic sex offences. Cases ongoing.

Family law: Samantha continues to practise in Family Law with an emphasis on cases with a public law element.
