Anthony Metzer QC secures acquittal for youth in five handed conspiracy to murder

News

Anthony Metzer QC has secured an acquittal for his 17 year old client following a seven week trial at Manchester Crown Court for conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to commit Grievous Bodily Harm.

His client was accused, along with four others, of a plot involving the hire of two contract killers. The first defendant, Luigi Dalli, paid brothers Liam and Carl Johnson (recruited by Dalli’s former partner Caroline Meighan) to kill his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. The Johnson brothers attacked the victim with an axe and a knife but he survived after fighting them off. While on remand for conspiracy to murder, Dalli then tried to enlist a fellow prisoner to make a further attempt on the victim’s life but the proposed new hitman informed the police.

Dalli and the Johnson brothers were convicted of conspiracy to murder and Meighan of conspiracy to commit Grievous Bodily Harm. Anthony’s client, described in court as “Dalli’s right hand man”, was found not guilty of all charges. The case was reported in the Daily Mail here.

Anthony led Paul Hodgkinson of Exchange Chambers in Manchester and was instructed by Jane Miller of Kristina Harrison Solicitors.
