In Memoriam – Jessica Holmes

News

It was with great sadness that we learned of the tragic death of Jessica “Jess” Holmes, who passed away at the end of September aged just 40.

Jess had been a tenant at Argent Chambers, specialising predominantly in criminal law.  Before the merger with Goldsmith Chambers, she decided to leave the independent Bar, and spent many years working in regulatory law, firstly with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and, subsequently, in a variety of organisations including the Bar Standards Board and the CPS.  Her most recent appointment was with the Electoral Commission.

Jess was called to the Bar in 2003.  She was fiercely intelligent, with a sharp wit and a dry sense of humour that will be recalled fondly by all her friends and colleagues. Jess will be remembered, above all, as a dedicated and loyal friend, with a huge heart.

Jess was a very strong Advocate for mental health issues, and for this reason her friends have set up a Just Giving page in her memory.

Our deepest condolences are extended to her family and friends.
