Charlotte Bull successfully prosecutes 3 week rape trial of a 16 year old in a Lewisham park at Woolwich Crown Court

News

Charlotte Bull, acting as junior alone, secured guilty verdicts following a 3 week trial at Woolwich Crown Court. The Defendant, who was represented by two counsel, was found guilty of threatening to disclose indecent images, rape, sexual assault and intentional strangulation of a 16 year old girl in a Lewisham park.

The matter had a number of complexities. There was a large volume of phone download evidence, cell mast evidence and expert medical evidence which required careful presentation to the jury.

Charlotte also contended with s41 (previous sexual history) and s78 (exclusion of evidence) applications made by the Defence during the trial. Charlotte cross-examined the defence expert witness, described to the jury as the UK’s pre-eminent forensic pathologist and cross-examined the Defendant.

The jury returned their verdict within 5 and a half hours.

Charlotte Bull is a grade 3 prosecutor and a specialist grade 3 RASSO prosecutor. She accepts instructions to both prosecute and defend in Rape and Serious Sexual Offences.
