Dr Anton van Dellen and Sarah Pinder speak at Law Friends Society’s Manchester Immigration Conference – 10th October 2019

News

Dr Anton van Dellen and Sarah Pinder from Chambers’ immigration team joined the Law Friends Society’s Immigration Conference in Manchester on 10th October 2019.

Anton delivered a very well-received lecture on what has become known as the “Hamid” cases and the reach of disciplinary tribunals in the immigration courts. Anton was able to provide expert guidance having represented the appellant in Vay Sui IP v Solicitors Regulation Authority in the High Court on a direct access basis. In this case, the solicitor involved appealed against a decision of the Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal (“SDT”) to strike him off the roll of solicitors and to order him to pay the costs of and incidental to the tribunal proceedings, fixed in the sum of £10,000.

Later in the morning, Sarah gave a comprehensive overview on the impact of Brexit in immigration law for practitioners to be completely up to date. The uncertainty surrounding this area is causing practitioners and clients alike much difficulty and Sarah was able to distill some of the key dates and procedures to follow in order to ease some of us through these turbulent times.

The feedback received was widely positive and the immigration team would wish to formally thank Steve Kennedy at the Law Friends Society for his stellar launch and coordination of the conference.
