Dr Charlotte Proudman interviewed on Channel 4 Dispatches

News

Dr Proudman is a family law expert in domestic abuse, rape and coercive control. Dr Proudman was interviewed by Louise Tickle for C4 Dispatches, a documentary into the family court’s failure in approach towards parental alienation and domestic abuse allegations. In never seen before footage, C4 shows the court ordered forcible removal of children from their mother’s homes in the name of parental alienation. Dr Proudman raises concerns that this approach is causing the children significant and irreparable harm and there is no evidence that it brings about the child’s loving response towards the other parent. In fact, it could have the opposite affect.

Dr Proudman represented two mothers in the domestic abuse, general guidance Court of Appeal case of H-N and Others. However, she is concerned that the family courts are not adopting a “modern approach” to domestic abuse.

Dr Proudman’s article was published in the Telegraph yesterday, “Why I believe family courts need more scrutiny. Parental alienation, whereby a child is turned against one parent, does series damage to a family – as I have seen for myself”.

Dr Proudman’s article in the Guardian is due to be published today.

Fronted by journalist Louise Tickle, who has fought for transparency in the family courts for longer than five years, ‘Torn Apart – Family Courts Uncovered’ aired yesterday evening (Tuesday 20th July) on Channel 4’s Dispatches at 10 pm.
