Inspirational Women in Law Awards 2021

News

As nominations for this year’s Inspirational Women in Law Awards close today, 30th September 2021, Chambers continues to celebrate last year’s winner in the ‘Champion of the Year’ category: our colleague Samina Iqbal. We are also delighted that Samina has been invited to join this year’s judging panel.

Samina is Joint-Head of Chambers’ immigration and public law team and was recognised for her efforts and commitment in championing women barristers and aspiring lawyers, both in the UK and overseas. Samina is acutely aware of the gender gap in the profession – in the UK and also more widely in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. Demonstrating this dedication, Samina co-founded WiGS – Women Internationally Gaining Skills. The organisation delivers training in advocacy and legal skills to female law students and advocates internationally and assists in the development of a more diverse pool. WiGS focusses on countries, where despite the pressing need of legal representation for large numbers of women, there is a marked absence of female advocates.

Samina was also featured in the New Law Journal alongside Cherie Blair QC, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award last year. We wish all candidates in this year’s awards the very best of luck.
