Webinar – Criminal Deportations: Updates & Campaigns

Articles

The Goldsmith immigration and public law team and senior practitioners Sara Anzani and Jamil Dhanji were delighted to collaborate with author Luke de Noronha for this webinar on criminal deportations as part of the team’s Spring 2021 Series.

You can access a copy of the presentation slides here and view the recording by clicking on the link immediately below.

In her presentation, Sara examines the Court of Appeal’s recent revisiting of the “unduly harsh” test and other key concepts. Jamil then explores recent case law to consider the question of whether being a ‘home grown criminal’ has any relevance to the assessment of proportionality in deportation appeals.

Academic and author Luke de Noronah was able to join the panel in conversation with Sarah Pinder, join-head of the team. Together they touched on the issues raised by criminal deportations, sharing some of the ideas and research from Luke’s recently published book ‘Deporting Black Britons’.
